THE "NEW" ELEMENTARY-LEVEL REPORT CARD & GRADING SYSTEM

1.) This project was put on hold  Thurs., Jan. 29th, 2009 - due to budgetary constraints. It will be picked up again when the WPS finances allow.

2.) UPDATE ~ mid- January 2009
The full RC Committee Meeting that took place on Mon., Jan. 12 was very fruitful! The discussion was grading - and it was agreed among the teachers, parents & administrators that going with a traditional grading system of A,B,C, etc (using +/-   and including a failing grade) would be just right for grades 1thru 6. Kindergarten is yet to be determined.
**Our goal to have something better than the pass/fail that had been proposed by the Warwick Public Schools Curriculum Dept. last winter has officially been accomplished!!

4.) BACKGROUND on the new Report Cards - announced late winter 2008:
Please know that per Superintendent Horoschak & our School Committee, it was unanimously decided at the Tues., June 10, 2008 School Committee Meeting that the proposed elementary-level report card & grading system would be put on hold. A NEW Report Card & Grading System Committee has been formed effective this Fall 2008 to re-examine & re-design all grade level report cards to ensure that they are changed to address the needs of the students, classroom teachers, parents & the administration. Input from all welcome! AND: ITS NOT TOO LATE! Interested in lending a hand with this project? Parents, classroom teachers & principals are asked to simply email their name & contact information to Dr. Horoschak & Dr. Anne Siesel (note your interest in helping out with the new report card committee) at: horoschakp@warwickschools.org or siesela@warwickschools.org. As many already know, the proposed elementary-level report card & grading system from spring 2008 was basically a "pass/fail" approach - which is of course of great concern to teachers, principals, parents & students- this is where we need YOU to help make this better!
